No. Halvern is an independent insurance agency. Insurance companies build and price policies. We represent you in that market. We compare coverage across the carriers we work with, tell you plainly what each option does and doesn't do, and handle the paperwork once you choose.

How does Halvern get paid?

Accepted Answer

By commission from the insurance carrier, built into the premium you'd pay anywhere. When your policy is issued, the carrier pays us a percentage of the premium for placing and servicing it. You don't pay us a separate fee, and a quote from us costs nothing. If that ever changes for a specific policy, we'll tell you in writing before you commit.

How fast can I actually be covered?

For straightforward risks (a car, a home, a small business with a clean history), often the same day you talk to us. More complex risks take longer because underwriters ask more questions. Either way, nothing is in force until a licensed agent confirms your coverage in writing, so you always know exactly where you stand. Why do quotes for the same coverage differ so much?

Because carriers don't price risk the same way. Each one has an appetite (the kinds of customers it wants) and prices aggressively for those and defensively for everyone else. That spread is the entire reason independent agencies exist: we find the carrier whose appetite matches you. Send us a quote you already have and we'll show you where it sits in that spread.

What do you need from me to quote?

About three minutes of honest answers. What you're insuring, where it is, and a little history. We'll only ask for what underwriters actually require, and if we don't need your phone number to start, we won't require it.

Can I switch insurance mid-policy?

Accepted Answer

Usually, yes. Most policies can be cancelled mid-term with a pro-rated refund of unused premium, and we time the new policy so there's no gap. Before you switch, we check for cancellation penalties and for anything your current policy covers that the new one wouldn't, and if staying put is the right answer, that's what we'll tell you. Send us the current policy and the renewal date and we'll map the timing before you decide.

Question 7

I just got a nonrenewal or cancellation notice. What do I do?

First, check which one it is. A nonrenewal means the carrier is stepping away when your term ends (often for reasons that have nothing to do with you, like retreating from a region or a line of business), and it is not the mark against you that a cancellation is. A mid-term cancellation is more serious and usually traces to payment, a change in the risk, or something on the application. Either way, the date on the notice is a hard deadline, and everything useful happens before it: replacing coverage ahead of a lapse is routine work, while a lapse itself is a red flag to the next underwriter. Call us the day the notice arrives, with the notice in front of you.

My renewal price jumped. Do I just have to pay it?

No, but don't let the deadline decide for you. Renewal increases usually trace to something specific: rate changes the carrier filed in your state, a claim or violation entering your record, or rebuilding and repair costs outrunning your old premium. Some of that follows you to any carrier. A surprising amount of it doesn't, which is the entire argument for an independent agency. Send us the renewal offer and your current declarations page and we'll re-shop it before the renewal date. With lead time, switching is seamless. After the date, you're negotiating from a lapse.

My lender or landlord says my proof of insurance isn't acceptable. Can you fix it?

Almost always, and usually the same business day. Most of the time nothing is wrong with your coverage. The document is just missing something the requirements call for: a mortgagee or additional-interest listing, a limit they want shown, or evidence issued on the form they expect. Occasionally the coverage itself genuinely falls short of the contract, and you want to know that now, not at closing. Email us the requirements page from your lender or landlord along with whatever they sent you, and we'll either issue corrected evidence of insurance or tell you exactly what has to change on the policy.

Do you charge broker fees?

Our standard compensation is carrier commission. If a specific placement ever involves a fee (some hard-to-place risks do), you'll see it in writing, itemized, before anything is bound. No surprises on an invoice, ever.

What does 'independent' actually mean?

Accepted Answer

It means we aren't employed by any insurance company. A captive agent can only sell one carrier's products, whatever the price. Halvern represents 60+ carriers, which means when one raises rates or narrows coverage, we can move you. And the recommendation you get is based on your risk, not our employer.

Will my rate go up if I get a quote?

Accepted Answer

No. Quoting is not a claim, and it isn't reported like one. Some personal lines quotes involve a soft credit inquiry, which does not affect your credit score. If a soft pull applies to your quote, we'll say so before we run anything.

What happens when I file a claim?

Accepted Answer

You can go straight to your carrier (every policy has a 24/7 claims line), but we'd rather you call us first. We'll make sure the claim is set up correctly, translate the adjuster's questions, and keep it moving. You're not handed off to a call center the day something goes wrong. That's most of what you're paying an agent for.

Yes. Halvern serves all 50 states. Wherever you or your business sit, we can quote and service the coverage. Ask. It is a ten-second answer.

Then you have something worth comparing. Send us your current declarations page and we'll review price, limits, deductibles, and exclusions. If what you have is right, we'll tell you it's right. If it isn't, you'll see exactly where it falls short before you decide anything.

Is anything bound when I submit a form on this site?

No. Nothing on this website binds, changes, or cancels coverage: no form, email, voicemail, or text. Coverage exists only when a licensed agent confirms it in writing. We repeat this everywhere on purpose. Ambiguity about whether you're covered is the one thing an insurance website should never create.
